With sdellboy
John Motson:
It's been a turbulent start to 2004, but this month has seen
the start of the final rounds of the Alliance League. It's been
a tough battle but the final outcome looks as predictable as we
all predicted it would be.
Kenneth Wolstenholme:
Yes, that's right John and I for one have been thoroughly enthralled
by the reports from the 'Clan Mole'. His intelligence and foresight
are only bettered by his sparkling wit, and he has finally proved
those wrong who criticised his inability to organise a party in
a brewery.
John Motson:
My thoughts exactly Ken, but we shouldn't dwell on the shortcomings
of the 'Clan Mole'. This season's Alliance has been had more excitement
and action than the time Disaster Area dropped his soap in the
prison showers.
Kenneth Wolstenholme:
Painful memories for all concerned John.
John Motson:
Talking of bringing up the rear Kenneth, how disappointed were
you by the failure of both Doomed and The Dragons this season?
Kenneth Wolstenholme:
Very disappointed John. On paper Doomed appeared to be five names
written down in crayon. In action, their only success has been
living up to their name. As for The Dragons, well, they have some
exciting players - and they have darkshines. We're all aware of
his pedigree and his talent - it's just a shame he's so unaware
of it himself.
John Motson:
I couldn't have put that better myself, Kenneth. Can you see
Grunts On The Edge holding onto that top spot?
Kenneth Wolstenholme:
Very doubtful John. The smart money is on the Faceless Consortium
- the Grunts are simply keeping the seat warm for the Consortium
whilst the Faceless ones slowly exert their dominance over the
Alliance.
John Motson:
Yes, I must say, I have been very impressed by the form of the
Faceless Consortium since their arrival a couple of years back.
They simply go from strength to strength and I feel we could witnessing
the makings of a Laser Squad legend being made.
Kenneth Wolstenholme:
Very true John.
John Motson:
Indeed. There has been some talk Kenneth, about 'weak links'
in the Faceless Consortium. 'sdellboy' has been, in my mind, unfairly
labelled as the Consortium's Achilles Heel. Whilst we're all aware
that he has had a couple of losses this season, do you think it's
true to say that the opposition have cunningly realigned their
structures to allow their best players to take on sdellboy?
Kenneth Wolstenholme:
Most definitely John. 'sdellboy' has been the victim of some
cynical changes in line-up and has coped with these remarkably
well. Yes, it has been noted that he has encountered a loss or
two this season, but this has only gone on to allow his team-mates
to post more substantial wins. He's forever giving 110% and at
the end of the day, it's a game of 30 turns and he's helped deliver
the result that we expected. I see the Consortium lifting this
season's trophy and frankly, the hapless gameplay of so-called
seasoned veterans such as 'Quick Ben' can do nothing to stop them.
Trebor's mints may be a minty bit stronger, but won't be strong
enough to wrestle the title from the Consortium.
John Motson:
And how about your thoughts on this season's best player, Kenneth?
What of the once-great Purplechest? Or the masked crusader that
is Hero Boy? Is Jolan's Chicken well and truely plucked? Has the
welshtroll been chasing too many sheep around the valleys?
Kenneth Wolstenholme:
The once great Firing Squad has been shot in my mind, John. And
I'd overlook the Overseer. For my money, it's a three-way tie
between GuiltyCol, Matrix and DeadDog. Three great players and
three players that will be part of LSN lore for years to come.
People will ask "where were you when GuiltyCol was top of
the league?" "How did you feel when DeadDog's spawn
rushed you for that first time?"
John Motson:
And of course Matrix, Kenneth...
Kenneth Wolstenholme:
Well John, we can't even tell you who the Matrix is. You have
to see him for yourself.
John Motson:
The answer is out there Kenneth.
Anyway, it's been a pleasure watching this season's Alliance.
Some people may call them boring, some people might get angry
that they are just SO good. But either way, you have to take your
hats off to the Faceless Consortium - they have defined the way
we think about LSN and they have continued to teach us a valuable
lesson - they're right, and we're wrong.
Kenneth Wolstenholme:
A very valuable lesson, John.
John Motson:
Indeed. |
